I love getting those boxes with a smile on the side from Amazon. They come quite often to my house because Amazon is a great way to save money, time and gas. I can get products delivered right to my door without ever leaving the house. Here are 10 ways that I have found to save money and time shopping on Amazon.
Here is what you get with an Amazon Prime membership:
- Free two-day shipping on tons of items
- Access to millions of ad-free songs and playlists
- Instant streaming of movies and TV episodes
- Unlimited photo storage
- A free Kindle book to borrow each month
- 30-minute early access to some Lightning Deals
The membership is $99 per year. Prime members can share their two-day shipping benefits with up to four family members living in the same household.
I have found that the free shipping alone makes the $99 worth it.
Amazon Mom is a program geared towards helping parents save money. You can use Amazon Prime and Amazon Mom together and get the benefits of both at the same time. Here are the benefits of Amazon Mom:
- 20% off diaper subscriptions with Subscribe & Save
- 30 days of Amazon Prime with free 2-day shipping
- Promotions geared towards parents
Are you going to school and have a valid .edu email address? If so, you might be eligible for Amazon Student. Here’s what you get with Amazon student:
- Six months of free two-day shipping on Amazon Prime items
- $10 credit for every friend you refer
- Special offers and promotions geared towards college students
Once the six month free-trial period is up, students can continue their membership by paying $49 annually. Students will then get access to Prime Instant Video, Prime Music and a free Kindle book to borrow each month from the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library.
Amazon Prime Pantry
Prime Pantry is a service available to Amazon Prime members. You can shop for grocery and household items. Prime Pantry items indicate what percentage of a box the item will fill. You fill a pantry box by adding items to your cart. Once you have a full box, shipping is just $5.99 per Prime Pantry box.
If you are buying items that you know you don’t have coupons for, Prime Pantry is a great way to go. You will save time and gas purchasing through Amazon. I have ordered from Prime Pantry and found the prices on many items I buy to be cheaper than my local grocery store and in some cases, even warehouse stores. I was surprised that even large items, like paper towels were included.
Amazon Wish List
I use the wish list when I’m not ready to buy something but don’t want to forget about it. Instead of adding the item to your shopping cart, you add it to your wish list. If the price of an item in your wish list drops significantly, Amazon will send you an email.
I also let my kids make a wish list on their birthday and at Christmas. When it’s time to order presents, I just look at the wish list and pick out the items I want to give them. The wish list is another way Amazon saves me time.
Amazon offers a deal of the day; you will find a new item each day at a steep discount. Just click on the button near the top of the Amazon site that says “Today’s Deals.” These deals are often referred to as Gold Box deals.
Lightning deals are offered for specific amounts of time with a certain number of products in stock, so they sell out quickly. If you want to know what the daily deals are you can sign up to receive daily emails.
Items that have been previously opened, returned or refurbished are resold at discounted prices in Amazon’s Warehouse Deals. If you’re looking for a specific item, check the warehouse deals first to see if you can get a better deal.
Subscribe & Save
Subscribe & Save is a great service for items you know you will buy over and over. You add the items to your account and they will automatically be delivered to your door at the frequency you set. You can save up to 15% and receive free shipping on recurring deliveries.
Use Camelcamelcamel.com to check Amazon price history and make sure you are getting a good deal. You can create an Amazon price watch and be alerted when the item you want drops in price.
I never hesitate to order from Amazon as I know they have amazing customer service. I recently ordered shoes in the wrong size. The problem was taken care of quickly and new shoes were shipped out. My son’s Kindle stopped charging. The customer service rep spent a lot of time trying to diagnose the problem over the phone, walked me through some care tips for the Kindle and eventually shipped a new chord and fast charging box to us at no charge.
You really can save money and time shopping on Amazon. I can’t wait for the next box with a smile on the side to arrive on my doorstep!
